Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner

Department: Mental Health Clinic
Location: Jackson, TN

The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner will serve as the Mental Health Clinic Administrator and will be responsible for all aspects of the Mental Health Clinic.  The Administrator works closely with clinical staff, the financial department, Quality Assurance personnel, nursing, and the corporate leadership team to optimize clinic functioning and ensure efficient, high-quality care for the individuals supported by the department.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

ANCC Psychiatric Board Certified Nurse Practitioner  that has Psychiatric experience and three to five years of progressive work experience in the management of a clinical setting to include the essential functions noted above.

Essential Functions:

  1. Provide consultation services for the Mental Health Clinic
  2. Provide mental health assessments to new supportive housing admissions within 7 days of admissions and conduct follow up consultation services.
  3. Provide as needed consultation around psychiatric questions, medical diagnoses and interactions, medication reviews or pharmacology.
  4. Oversee the clinical billing process, including initial eligibility checks, pre-authorization of services, initial creation of claims, submission to relevant clearing houses and managed care organizations, resolving denials, and tracking received revenue. The Administrator will not personally perform each of these duties; they will oversee the completion of these tasks by relevant staff and assist with developing procedures to optimize efficiently and workflow.
  5. Assist clinical staff and financial support staff with consultation around billing and coding issues, with the aim of maximizing the departmentís clean-claim rate.
  6. Work with internal clinical staff and external stakeholders to identify new codes or services that could be offered to maximize revenue.
  7. Collaborate with development team members and outside stakeholders to negotiate rate contracts, resolve administrative complications, and ease/simplify administrative workflow issues.
  8. Ensure trending and relevant statistics around departmental functioning, such as billing efficiency, clean claim and denial rates, wait list times, revenue-per-staff, etc. are completed. This also includes gathering and tracking outcome-related agency data, such as information on goal completion, access to services, etc... as required by CARF and other regulatory bodies.
  9. Consult with clinical staff around caseloads, including assigning and redistributing cases among available clinical staff. This includes consulting with relevant stakeholders to maximize individual choice of clinicians while also maximizing efficient staff utilization.
  10. Understand minimum requirements for relevant billable managed care service codes and ensure that documentation for services rendered will withstand an external audit on those requirements.
  11. Create and revise clinical documentation to meet standard of care requirements while simultaneously minimizing administrative load on clinical staff.
  12. Have a working knowledge of the electronic medical records systems used by the corporation, defined as sufficient understanding of the systems to train new clinicians on the programs and consult with established clinicians to resolve minor problems.
  13. Understand and apply state regulations to clinical practice requirements. This includes developing a working knowledge of the systems in Tennessee and North Carolina, as well as the federal Medicaid system and any new states the corporation may expand into.
  14. Understand and apply managed care requirements and regulations to clinical practice. This includes developing a working knowledge of all managed care companies with whom the corporation currently has provider contracts.
  15. Maintain compliance with the state outpatient mental health facility licensure standards.
  16. Maintain compliance with CARF standards, including standards relating to documentation, service standards, data collection, and training.
  17. Oversee the administrative aspects of the chart audit process, including assisting with preliminary chart audits, ensuring audit corrections are completed in a timely manner, and making changes to the audit process to reflect changes in state or managed care regulations.
  18. Oversee clinical chart security, document storage, and appropriate clinician access as defined by HIPAA standards.
  19. Comply with emerging state-of-care expectations regarding clinical telemedicine services.
  20. Assist with getting newly hired clinicians credentialed with our managed care partner companies.
  21. Work with clinical staff to prepare documentation for state surveys, TNCare audits, licensure visits, CARF credentialing, and other scheduled reviews of departmental service quality.
  22. Work with QA to ensure timely completion of plans of correction that result from external reviews. This includes consultation with QA staff around the best ways to meet any performance shortfalls, as derived from a working knowledge of the relevant regulations and standard of care.
  23. Provide direct supervision for any administrative staff supporting the department.
  24. Ensure that any restrictive procedures implemented by clinical staff are supported by proper authorizations via the local human rights committee.
  25. Address and resolve problems, grievances, or unusual requests by clinic clients or outside stakeholders.
  26. Revise policies and procedures that have a relevant behavioral/administrative interface within the corporation.
  27. Provide information to the leadership and development teams about administrative/financial issues that have the potential to impact growth or expansion (both positively and negatively) in both existing and potential markets.
  28. Identify high-risk liability issues and bring them to the attention of the leadership team, along with potential solutions or interventions that may help mitigate risk.
